You know, I had a goal to write 100 posts before my blog subscription renews in 2025.
That hasn’t gone so well, now has it?
When I made this goal, I had written 52 posts. I calculated all the words from each post (for fun and because I’m crazy), and there are 69,435 words in those 52 posts. That means that there are 1,335 average words per post.
I don’t know about you, but that seems CRAZY to me! Almost 70,000 words in just blog posts.
I now have 55.5 posts (the post about my podcast doesn’t really count so I counted it as #52.5). Without a doubt I have surpassed 70,000 words now.
My plan to write 100 blog posts by June of 2025 was soon derailed when in October of 2022, two different friends suggested I start a podcast. One of them had suggested this to me prior to October, but I was finally convinced when not one, but two people told me to.
The second friend said, “what’s it hurt to look up a podcast microphone on Amazon?”
So I did.
And suddenly I was very excited and couldn’t wait to start my very own podcast! After some researching, I found a podcast program online and decided to just go for it! I started my year long subscription in October.
I posted my first podcast episode on November 18, 2022, a month after I started my subscription.
If you listen to episode one, you’ll know this is because I was absolutely terrified. I wanted it to be a success, I wanted it to be good quality, and I wanted it to be something worthy of listening to.
I didn’t want friends and family to listen out of some obligation to me (maybe at first haha!). I wanted them to be interested and find enjoyment from listening.
As to whether or not I’ve accomplished that, that’s for them to say.
There’s no doubt, however, that I have put a lot of time and effort into being consistent, prepared, and dedicated. I mean, add all the time the episodes are, add an hour (quite literally) for editing for each episode, add the time I’ve spent preparing, and add the many times I’ve begged people to be on it and set up times to get that done.
It’s been a lot of work.
But honestly, it’s been worth it.
I’ve really enjoyed it.
My favorite thing is having people be updated on my life and what I’m learning without having to have individual conversations with every single person. Don’t get me wrong, I love and enjoy talking to people, but I love that my friends and family (and randos I guess) can learn new little things about me that probably wouldn’t come up otherwise.
Like how I only like ground beef. Or how I didn’t know that you could buy a single banana. Or that I laugh at really random things like trudging through the snow.
It’s been such a blessing in my life.
My notes for different classes have changed as I’ve paid better attention to what I could share on my podcast. The way I view life has shifted for the better. I look for the positive much more often now. I really dive into my thoughts and impressions about things to dig a little deeper into the content of life. I reach out to more people to build better connections and to invite them (or beg them haha) to have a conversation with me while recording.
I’m looking forward to having these discussions as well as my own thoughts recorded for future me. My future family. My future friends.
It’s my own personal journal with the sound of my 19 & 20 year old self! It’s pretty dang special!
At the end of the day, I’m okay if I don’t reach my goal of writing and posting 100 blog posts before June of 2025 because things change. My podcast wasn’t something I had anticipated, and that has changed everything.
That being said, here’s to being one more post closer to my goal. Cheers to that!
